چکیده

This paper gives a numerical analysis of nonlinearities due to rigid, elastic mechanical end-stops in a vibrating energy harvester. Both an eigenvalue problem approach and time domain simulations are used. We consider two rigid end-stops limiting the motion of a proof mass. The dynamics are linear between the impacts which cause strong nonlinear behavior. Even though the output power varies little with change in acceleration amplitude, we find that there can be drastic changes in the proof mass motion with change of amplitude. In a wide range of acceleration amplitudes the phase space trajectories are very complicated and have periods much longer than the period of the vibration, some appearing chaotic. Only in a small range of amplitudes do we find simple periodic motion.

Optimum resistive loads for vibration-based electromagnetic energy harvesters with a stiffening nonlinearity

The exploitation of nonlinear behavior in vibration-based energy harvesters has received much attention over the last decade. One key motivation is that the presence of nonlinearities can potentially increase the bandwidth over which the excitation is amplified and therefore the efficiency of the device. In the literature, references to resonating energy harvesters featuring nonlinear oscillato...

Numerical simulations of Beam’s Vibrations between Stops

We present numerical simulations of vibrations of an elastic beam between two stops. The beam is clamped at one end to a vibrating device; the motion of the other end is restricted by two stops. The contact is modeled by the normal compliance condition which describes nonlinear flexible stops, and approximates the Signorini condition for rigid stops. We propose a finite element method for the n...

Smart Flat Membrane Sheet Vibration-Based Energy Harvesters

The dynamic responses of membrane are completely dependent on Pre-tensioned forces which are applied over a boundary of arbitrary curvilinear shape. In most practical cases, the dynamic responses of membrane structures are undesirable. Whilst they can be designed as vibration-based energy harvesters. In this paper a smart flat membrane sheet (SFMS) model for vibration-based energy harvester is ...

Numerical Analysis of Composite Beams under Impact by a Rigid Particle

Analysis of a laminated composite beam under impact by a rigid particle is investigated. The importance of this project is to simulate the impact of objects on small scale aerial structures. The stresses are considered uni- axial bending with no torsion loading. The first order shear deformation theory is used to simulate the beam. After obtaining kinematic and potential energy for a laminated ...
